Hyun Seung first received media attention as a trainee under YG Entertainment with nickname So-1, when he was preparing to debut as a member of Big Bang. He appeared in 10 out of 11 episodes of the Big Bang Documentary, but wasn't chosen to be a part of the final group formation by YG's president. He received a lot of concerns from Cube's management when BEAST was being formed, as the first thing the members were instructed to do was to have Hyun Seung gain weight.Yang Hyun Seung, also known by his stage name SO-1, opened up about the hardships he experienced up to this point and being eliminated from the popular boy group Big Bang.

For those who are unfamiliar with him, Jang Hyun Seung was once under YG Entertainment, training to become an official member of Big Bang. Unfortunately, he was eliminated from the group on the 9th episode of Big Bang's documentary--a decision made by the management company which deeply affected both the fans and fellow members alike.

Since then, Jang Hyun Seung has transferred over to Cube Entertainment and began preparations as a member of the upcoming guy group, B2ST.

In the MTV documentary of 'B2ST', which aired its first episode on August 23rd, the former YG trainee opened up to the public about his reaction to being cut from Big Bang.

"After being eliminated [from Big Bang], I went through a really difficult time. Whenever I was alone, I would feel extremely lonely. However, I think those times gave me motivation to work that much harder. They became memories that I cherish even until today."

He continued, "If not for then, I would not be where I am now. I made many memories with Big Bang so when people say 'Now, you are rivals', I feel very hurt."

Aside from good looks and notable singing/dancing abilities, Jang Hyun Seung seems to have more in common with his fellow B2ST members than expected. Yoon Doo Joon, who was once a part of the MNet documentary, 'Hot Blood', and was set to debut in JYPE group One Day until he, too, was cut. Like Jang Hyun Seung, Lee Ki Kwang (also known by his stage name, AJ) and Son Dong Woon also trained for a long time under JYP Entertainment while Yang Yo Seob, under M-Boat. Hyun Seung is the quiet thinker and to him, a girl is sexiest when she lets down her hair.

AJ released a total of two singles from his debut EP. The first single, “(Dancing Shoes)”, former Wonder Girls and now 4Minute member, Hyuna made an appearance in the music video. The original version features (now) BEAST member Junhyung, for the promotional version, rapper/singer Doo Joon (now the leader of Beast) was added to the rap with Junhyung.
AJ has now switched from a solo artist to a group member of Beast. He is now known as Gikwang, or Kikwang.The group debuted on October 16, 2009 on KBS Music Bank with their single “Bad Girl”. He is one of the main dancers and a lead vocalist in BEAST.

BEAST’s Lee Gi Kwang admittance to liking girl group f(x) has become a topic. In MBC’s broadcast of “Sunday, Sunday Night – Enthusiastic Brothers” on the 1st, Lee Gi Kwang was asked by Park Myung Soo to reveal the name of his favorite member in a girl group during the the first round “Don’t Get Mad” of the “Emotions” topic.
Lee Gi Kwang says, “I admire f(x)’s Victoria” and continued to compliment, “Even though she isn’t my type, she’s really pretty and she gives off a pure, fresh feeling and gave me a good impression.” Gi Kwang thinks a pretty and cute smile is the best thing a girl can have.

Before his debut with BEAST, he auditioned for High Kick Through the Roof and was offered a role in the sitcom but turned it down to focus on his music career.
